Payment of Weekly Game Fees - Proposed Change

Watsonia Warriors Junior Basketball Club (WWJBC) are investigating options available for the payment of weekly game fees and would appreciate your input as part of this process.

Specifically, we would like to know whether your preference is to:

  • Continue paying game fees on a weekly basis (current approach)
  • Change to paying game fees in full at the beginning of each season (alternative approach)

It is not feasible to have some teams continuing to use the current approach and others changing to the alternative approach – only one option will be selected and applied to the entire club membership.

A decision on whether to change or not will be based on your responses to this survey.

If adopted, the alternative approach would be implemented for the Winter 2013 season.

More detail on the pros and cons of each approach is given below for your information.

Please respond to this email confirming your preference before Friday 24th August. We will assume that those who do not provide a preference via email before 24/8 are happy to abide by the Committee’s decision.

Thanking you in anticipation,

Monica Rigby

Treasurer / Registrar

WWJBC

Current Approach

Team Manager collects game fees each week (approx. $7-10 per player)

  • Game Fees of $45 are paid immediately prior to each game by the Team Manager
  • Games do not commence until both teams have paid their fees

 Advantages

 Fees are paid weekly

  • Game fees payments are spread across the full season

 Disadvantages

Team Manager often pays initial game fee out of own pocket until “float” is collected from players

  • Team Manager has to keep weekly record of who has paid, who owes, etc.
  • Team Manager has to keep suitable coins to issue “change” for people who overpay
  • Families have to bring money to every game

 Alternative Approach

Players pay ALL game fees for gradings and the regular season at the beginning of every season (approx. $100.00 per player – to be confirmed)

  • Game Fees for FINALS are not included in the initial payment, but are to be paid as required by applicable players / teams
  • WWJBC pay Game Fees direct to Diamond Valley Basketball via invoice

Advantages

  • Team Managers do not need to handle money at all
  • Team Managers do not need to keep payment records
  • Families do not need to bring money to games
  • Families can choose to pay by Credit Card at the time of registration
  • Games are not delayed awaiting payment
  • Game Fees are slightly cheaper (approx. $100 compared with around $125 when paid weekly)
  • All Game Fee payments would be reconciled by the Treasurer, as are all other monies collected by the club

Disadvantages

Families are asked to pay at the beginning of the season (registration fee plus game fees). In recognition of people’s circumstances, we will continue to offer Payment Plans. We are also proposing that although payment may be made at time of registration, final payment for Game Fees could be made up until the end of Grading Games (Week 5 of the season).

NB – The game fees, if paid up front, would be the same for each child in the family. Discounts would continue to be applied to Registrations.

- First child, Registration $75, Game fee $100, Total $175

- Second child, Registration $40, Game fee $100, Total $140

- Third and subsequent Child, Registration $10, Game fee $100, Total $110

Please respond via email to watsoniawarriors@hotmail.com specifying your preference to either CONTINUE TO PAY COURT FEES WEEKLY or CHANGE TO PAY COURT FEES UP FRONT. All responses received on or before Friday 24/8/12 will be collated. Results and the Committee’s decision will be published after the September Committee Meeting.
