The Woodend/Hesket Football Netball Club is a proud club with a great culture and filled with outstanding history.
Playing in the Riddell District Football Netball League; Woodend and Hesket joined forces in 1978 following the merger of the Woodend and Hesket Football Clubs.
Hesket formed in 1936, playing in the Riddell District Football League until merging with Woodend following the 1977 season. It celebrated its one and only premiership victory in 1960 while competing in the RDFL.
Woodend has enjoyed a decorated history spanning numerous competitions. Forming in the early 1900s, the club was a member of the Riddell Football Association; later known as the Gisborne District Football Association from 1904 to 1921.
The club was a member of the Trentham Football Association in 1922 before the league disbanded after one season. They returned to the RDFL from 1923 to 1939 before enjoying 13 seasons in the Castlemaine Football League from 1940 to 1952.
Woodend rejoined the RDFL for its third and final time in 1953 where it remained until merging with Hesket at the end of the 1977 season.
The Woodend Junior Football Netball Club was founded in 1973 and has since produced many outstanding players who have gone on to achieve great success at Senior level.
The Seniors play its home games at Gilbert Gordon Oval, while the Juniors play its home games at the Woodend Racecourse.
The Woodend Hesket Masters Football Club was founded in 2016 in a bid to give previously retired players; or those looking to dial back their football commitments in a fun, enjoyable and exciting atmosphere to enjoy their football; without the seriousness (although many take it serious on game day).
Netball has become a major part of the club's culture and player participation. While participating in the Riddell Netball Association in its early inception in the 1990s; the club enjoyed its first run of success in 2018 when its 19 and Under team became the first team of Hawk netballers to make a Grand Final at Senior level; going down to Rupertswood by seven goals, 36 to 29.
The Juniors fielded teams in 2014 in the formation of the Riddell District Netball Association; achieving outstanding success by fielding teams in the 13 and 15 and Under Division One competitions.
In 2019, the juniors fielded three female football teams in the AFL Goldfields Female Football competition. Matches take place at Racecourse Reserve.
As of 2019, the Juniors will play its home games at Gilbert Gordon Oval and will use the Racecourse Reserve as required.
