The Northern Blues Amateurs suffered their second loss of the season on Saturday, going down to Emmaus St Leos by 10 points at a wet and muddy Ruthven Reserve.
The Blues will feel like as though it was a missed opportunity for a win in the 11.13 (79) to 12.17 (89) defeat after giving up a ten point lead in the final quarter.
The Blues looked to have all the momentum heading into the last after kicking five goals to two in a well-disciplined third stanza.
However, the Animal’s bounced with seven final quarter goals – including the first five of the term - to register their second win of the season in dramatic fashion.
The visitors were lead well by captain Paul Baranello (4 goals) and his brother Nathan in the deciding moments of the game.
Northern were serviced well by Nathan Parkes and Matt Holmes who combined for six of the Blues 11 goals for the contest.
Club stalwart Michael Ferma stated that the Blues will need to learn quickly from their defeats in order to stay in touch with the division’s leaders.
"The next month or so will really be important it setting up another tilt at a deep finals run," he said.
"It's important that as a unit we learn from losses like this and make it a habit to capitalize when in a winning position at three quarter time".
"This week on the track will be important for us to regroup and hit the next stretch of games head on with a positive attitude”.
The win sees Northern plummet down four positions to seventh on the ladder in a tight Division 3.
Despite their position though, the Blues are just four points away from the ladder leading Swinburne University on 16 points through five games.
The Blues will need to bounce back quickly from the performance against UHS-VU this week who beat the previously undefeated Richmond Central last weekend.
The match will be played at Ruthven Reserve at 2:00pm to conclude the clubs first triple-header for 2014.
In other games, the reserves failed to get their first win of the season despite controlling the majority of play in their match against Emmaus.
Robert Cossens and Sam Clarkson were both stellar in the 6.14 (50) to 7.15 (57) loss.
The under 19’s are also winless through five games after being soundly defeated by under 19 section 3 table-topper’s Old Carey.
