Our run of outs at Camberwell continues with DLS going down by 20 points in a tense encounter befitting a 3rd V 5th situation. DLS had prevailedby 8 points at East Malvern earlier in the season but did not capitalise on its earlier dominance in the match yesterday.
Despite its clear dominance DLS was only 6 points up at quarter time with the elusive Ed Clinch scoring the only major for the term. Ina hard fought term it was obvious that it was to be a contest of speed & agility and brute strength that would determine the outcome.
Backman Jake Williams opened scoring in the 2nd term with a terrific goal from the scoreboard after excellent clearance work of Luke Semmel. In contrast to
Qtr 1 scoring appeared easier when big Mark Passador got free from the tight playing Tom Humphrey to get Old Scotch’s 1st gaol. Scotch edgedwithin 1 point when Van Der Broek goaled only to see Luke Semmel goal from a sharp angle, on the receiving end of a superb clearance byyoung emerging ruck Garrett McDonough.
It was intense footy played in light rain which suited DLS’s smaller brigade as was in evidence when Seb Gotch swooped on loose balls and goaled twice from close range. Returning after a 6 week break due to illness & injury Seb was proving a handful as was fellow small forward Ed Clinch.Right on half time Lindsay Gilbee at last breaking the hard tag of Sam Haslem goaled to reduce the margin in DLS ‘s favour to 14 points.
Old Scotch began with significantly higher intensity and goals to Passador & McMillan boosted its confidence. Passador goaled from a free andScotch had hit the front for the 1st time and it was only 7 minutes into the 3rd quarter! Live wire small forward Charlie Haley scored an opportunistgoal from a scrimmage close in and DLS had regained the lead albeit by only 1 point.
The intensity of the next 12 minutes of play is evidence by it producing just 2 scores, a behind and then goal to Tim McMillan at the 23 minute mark.
With Old Scotch leading by 6 points DLS began smartly with Ed Clinch goaling from distance after a clever mark. However in quick time Passadordribbled through 2 snapped goals from about 25 meters out from the middle of a swarm of players to give Scotch some breathing space. DLS responded with goals to Sam Pickett and Matt Hine to again level the scores. In sharp contrast to the 1st quarter the game was fast flowing openaffair and Nick Jamieson capitalised on this with 2 smart goals.Charlie Haley snapped a clever goal and the margin was just 7 points. DLS was gallant but could not get vital possessions. McKinley sealed the match at the 19minute mark and just before the siren Sam Barnett goaled to give Old Scotch a well deserved 20 point margin although the match was much closer than that.

A must win in which never more than a few points separated the teams all day. We came up against a much-improved Scotch team since our last outing in which we “jumped” them and kicked seven first quarter goals. This was fifth versus sixth on the ladder and in the end that’s how close it turned out. Scotch played a much better first quarter than us without showing it on the scoreboard we went into the first quarter break three points up due to two fantastic goals against the run of play by Tommy Naughtin. Coach Brown asked for smarter efforts in the second quarter and the game began to swing our way however we just couldn’t place any scoreboard pressure, no side was able to establish any lead and the game was extremely tight until three quarter time. De La Salle went in to the orange break one point up and were hopeful they could finally break the opposition on the scoreboard.
Scotch came out of the break on fire they kicked the first three goals and by the 12 minute mark you could be forgiven for thinking the game was over. Someone forgot to inform the De La Boys. We managed to kick the next four goals in 9 mins including a fifty metre bomb from Poc O' Connell that put us seven points up with 6 mins to play. Scotch managed to score one more goal to ensure that it was a nail biting finish that was concluded with a Matty Scarlett esq toe poke from Cam Watts to seal the game late for a one point victory.
