The outstanding form of Nick Roberts and Justin Baxter has been rewarded with selection in the VAFA senior team to play AFL Sydney at Blacktown this weekend.
While their form has caught the eye of the VAFA selectors we believe that their achievements deserve some extra acknowledgement as for different reasons both could easily have been lost to the club this year.
Most people around the club know how badly injured Justin was last year. He was gravely ill and it is not over stating things to say that at one stage it was life-threatening situation. We were all just happy to see him recover and then regain his health. To have him back playing football was a bonus. To see him playing in this fashion is testament to his ability, determination and commitment.
Nick was almost lost to the club in the off-season with a strong country team making a concerted effort to recruit him. As with many talented young amateur players he turned down a lucrative offer to play for nothing and we are most grateful for his loyalty. Nick has been in superb form this year. In fact the only game we have lost this year was the one game that he missed. No one prepares better than ‘Eric’ so it’s probably no great surprise to see him in such form.
We wish the boys well and can be sure they will do us proud.
