Oakleigh Chargers travelled to Geelong with 15 changes to the team, with the bulk of the squad unavailable due to private school commitments.
While unsettling to the side, it provides the chance for other players in the squad to impress. Coach Justin Wenke said, “When you make such big changes, it does take some time to adjust. But it’s an exciting time with many players getting opportunities.”
Despite a solid start by the Chargers the Geelong Falcons led at every change, eventually running out winners 19.10 (124) to Chargers 12.10 (82).
Wenke said “We started ok, but Geelong moved the ball strongly. There were lots of positive signs for our coaching panel.” Jack Williams kicked four goals, while Jay Canterbury in his first game booted three goals. Ryan Exon, Jordan Collopy, Nick Papaleo and Dylan Vizzarri were also among the Chargers best on the day.
The Chargers are fourth on the TAC Cup Ladder after 5 Rounds and next face Dandenong Stingrays at home at Warrawee Park Oval on Saturday 5th May at 11.00am.
