Rosebud Secondary College student Georgia Walker has been selected in the School Sport Victoria Girls 16 Years and under Australian Football Team competing in the School Sport Australia Australian Football Championship.
It has been a great performance by Georgia Walker following a selection process that began in March 2013, to make the final team of 25.
The students competed in a series of trials run by School Sport Victoria to gain selection in the School Sport Victoria State Team.
Many students go on to compete in Australian Football at higher levels.
Georgia Walker will join with teammates to play in a series of practice matches and training sessions before competing in the School Sport Australia Championship to be held in Darwin, NT.
So here’s hoping that Georgia Walker and their Victorian teammates can win the Australian title and that Georgia Walker may be breaking into Australian ranks over the next few years.
Georgia has been playing football for the past 6 years. She started out playing with the Rye Junior Football Club, and after turning 14 years old she had to move onto the Youth Girls Competition. Joining a number of passionate girls from the Peninsula, and a highly enthusiastic father (Gary Sandford), she was able to join the inaugural Mornington Peninsula Youth Girls Team in the South East Juniors Youth Girls competition where she is continuing her football pathway, hoping to one day play for a Senior AFL Women’s team.
After being selected to play for Victoria and currently part of the Future’s Squad Development Program, she is well on the way.
