The Dandenong Stingrays were awarded a special commendation of the TAC driver education innovation award at the Morrish Medal awards night last weekend.
The Stingrays completed a number of programs all designed around maximizing Learner driving opportunities and encouraging Learner and Probationary licence holders to make responsible decisions when driving.
The Stingrays TAC Cup and Under 16 players with Learners permits drove to and from their away game against Gippsland Power at Morwell in Round 1 of the TAC Cup this year which gave all players a couple of hours of vital driving practice on unfamiliar roads.
Another program was a short DVD filmed, edited and produced by Stingrays player Mitch Drummond and starring Stingray players Darcy Holden and James Hallahan and parent Mark Amalfi where they acted out a scenario around making smart decisions when it comes to drinking and driving.
On behalf of all the TAC Cup regions, Gippsland Power Region Manager Peter Francis thanked the TAC for the awards and made special mention of the parents of all the TAC Cup players for their support of the L120 message and their reinforcing of the message of safe driving to their sons.
