After a very ordinary past few weeks the Rebels were out to play for the jumper and get back on the winners list. It was 7 v 8 at AUSTAR Arena on a typical Ballarat Sunday afternoon and both teams were out looking for the win coming off back to back loses.
Set to be a scrappy day at the office the Rebels come out firing putting the first 6 on the board with no reply, just the start to build the confidence and go into the first break sending a message to the Rangers that we were here to play.
Second quarter and Rangers hit back as expected with a few hard fought goals to come within 4. Rebels locked down allowing little breathing space to stop their run and bring the game back into our hands. The grit and determination of the Rebel boys saw them pull away with a handy lead going into the main break.
With the third came the goals with all 22 standing up and contributing in their own way. The backs were tight with relentless pressure running down their opponents and allowing on easy passage into the back 50. Rebels’ mids were in and under all day winning the hard ball and pushing it forward every chance they got. Much the same, the forwards made use of all opportunities kicking 21-10 for the match with the heavy ball.
The final term saw the Rebels run out easy victors 136 to 46. Links and Ned worked hard in the back line with help from Ruffy, Hoops and Roo McKenzie in the center then Parish finished off the work kicking 5. With the bye next weekend its time to rest up and head home to then take on Sandringham in the next round. Thanks to the Eastern Rangers for making the trip over and again thanks to the staff, parents and supporters in getting out to the games to support the boys.
