EMULATING his brother’s feats in his debut season at the elite level is still motivating Essendon draftee Dylan Clarke.
Dylan’s brother Ryan had a standout first season, cracking six games with North Melbourne after some strong form with VFL affiliate Werribee.
He earnt a Rising Star nomination, was third in Werribee’s best and fairest and was awarded North Melbourne’s best young player award.
However, Clarke has already taken the first step to following in his brother’s footsteps – he won the Eastern Ranges best and fairest last year, just as his brother did in 2015.
When asked if he could better his brother’s achievements in 2017, Clarke said: “It would be good if I could but I’ll see how I go.
“He had a pretty good year last year.”
Clarke had a standout 2016, earning All-Australian and TAC Cup Team of the Year honours.
In his eight Eastern Ranges games, he averaged an impressive 30 disposals, four marks and eight tackles.
Clarke has enjoyed an injury-free pre-season since being drafted to Tullamarine, developing his trade with the assistance of Kyle Langford, David Myers and Brendon Goddard.
“To get through pre-season and complete every session that you’re expected to complete and to be injury-free is a big tick,” he said.
“I’ve just enjoyed it keeping the body fresh and I’m feeling good.”
Clarke wants to play in Essendon’s seniors as soon as possible, but is happy to develop his trade in the VFL.
“I just want to keep developing my footy and hopefully get some consistent good performances in the VFL and just see what happens from there,” he said.
