In a game which went down to the wire, Barwon Heads were narrow victors over Leopold in a game which had everything. A large crowd were enthralled by the close scores and high standard of football displayed by the girls. Nyleak Doap (Barwon Heads) and Vanessa lewicki (Leopold) were adjudged their teams respective best players.
In a match played in atrocious conditions at Highgate Reserve, geelong proved too strong for Bendigo to repeat their success of last season.
Geelong had 5 girls selected to play in the inaugural AFL Youth Girls National U18 Championships played in Melbouirne in October. Unfortunately Kelsey Houghton had to withdraw but Maddie Boyd (Victorian team) along with Rebecca Goring, Vanessa Lewicki and Tayla Rhodes Victorian Development team) all represented the region with distinction. Rebecca was presented with the "best team player" award following the carnival which was won by Victoria.
Clonard emulated the efforts of Leopold from 2009 when they went through the season undefeated to be Champions in the AFL Victoria Youth Girls Geelong competition.
The plans for season 2011 are that the competition which started with 4 teams in 2009 and grew to 6 in 2010 will expand to an 8-team format in 2011.
Geelong's Youth Girls Interleague team defeated Bendigo narrowly to take the title of Country Champions in a match played in very cold, wet and muddy conditions as part of the V/Line Cup.
Clonard's Maddie Boyd captained the team and was also awarded the medal as best-on-ground for the victors.
