- VFL’s first ever Rivalry Round: Big matches include Williamstown v Collingwood on Saturday at 1.10pm at Burbank Oval and local derby Northern Bullants v Coburg Tigers on Sunday at 2pm.
- VFL night football is back! Saturday, 7pm, Casey Fields, Cranbourne – great chance to have a kick under lights and watch the south-east derby Casey Scorpions v Frankston. Curtain-raisers from 2pm including AFL Victoria Youth Girls and Casey Scorpions v Frankston VFL reserves at 4.10pm.
- Premiers unfurl flag: Geelong unveils its VFL Premiership Flag on Sunday, 9.30am before its Werribee Tigers clash.
- Free entry: Fans heading to NAB Oval, Preston this Sunday for the Rivalry match between the Northern Bullants and Coburg Tigers can enjoy free entry thanks to Metlink. Valid Metcard holders can gain free entry at each of five scheduled matches at NAB Oval this season. Spectators can take a train to Preston or Bell stations, or a tram on routes 86 or 11.
- VFL Reserves: VFL Reserve grade competition kicks off with matches at North Ballarat, Port Melbourne, Cranbourne and Preston.
- New broadcaster: The VFL welcomes 3WBC 94.1FM to its broadcast stable joining Casey Radio and Double X. The station will broadcast all Box Hill home games and has a weekly VFL show on Tuesdays.
- Admission: $10 adults, $5 concession/pensioner, children free.
