What the Northern Knights look for when identifying a Talented Player
In analyzing
talent we all see things slightly different, however if
you are wondering what it takes to be selected into the Northern Knights
Talented Player Program then read on. This criteria is straight from the
Knights and can help you become aware of what they are looking for. It also
clears up any questions that you may have about the selection process.
Each year the
Knights run Selection Trials at U/14 level and field Squads in U/15’s (Keith
Burns Squad) and U/16’s (Max Richardson Squad), as well as a team that plays in
AFL Victoria’s TAC Cup U/18 Competition. When identifying talent the Knights
take into account the performance of a player in their selection trials as well
as his form at Club level or at Interleague level (NFL or YJFL).
The Knights have
Talent ID Staff (coordinated by Adrian Talarico) assigned to all NFL & YJFL
Clubs. As part of their process Nomination Forms are forwarded to all
Junior Clubs to seek the opinion of Club Coaches, but only as a checklist to their
own records. Club nominations do not guarantee an invitation into a Squad or
selection trial games.
The
Knights use the Club recommendations as a guide to the accuracy of their own
staff’s nominations. Please be assured that the final decision on players
invited into Selection Trial games is made by the Knights internal staff, not by their Talent ID staff.
