The Northern Knights kicked off their 2015 TAC Cup campaign on Saturday 21st March at IKON Park against the Oakleigh Chargers. The match began as a real arm wrestle with both sides struggling to score due to the fierce defence being played. Finally Jade Gresham broke the deadlock with a goal for the Knights before the Chargers answered late in the quarter to level the scores going into the first change. The tight contest continued in the second quarter as scoring continued to be difficult for both teams. A nice snap goal from Matt Perry kept Northern in touch as Oakleigh held a 12 point lead at half time. An early goal from Danyon Reinbold reduced the margin to just six points early in the third term but Oakleigh again had the answers kicking some late majors to extend their lead to 26 points by three quarter time. The Chargers then continued on in the final quarter booting five goals to nil to run out 59 point winners.
New player for the Knights this Season Michael Mattingly from NSW was best on ground with 31 possessions across half back, while Matt Perry, Jade Gresham & Brayden Fiorini were also prominent through the midfield. Down back both Jacob Booth & Lachlan Murphy were keys to the Knights defensive pressure throughout the game.
The Northern Knights next assignment is on Saturday 28th March against the Calder Cannons at Rams Arena in Craigieburn.
