Northern Knights 2006-07 Squad Member Matthew Kreuzer was nominated as the Round 11 NAB AFL Rising Star. Kreuzer played a vital role in Carlton's last quarter come back against Port Adelaide on Sunday night. After a quiet first three quarters Carlton coach Brett Ratten moved Kreuzer forward, which gave Carlton the spark they needed. Kreuzer kicked three final quarter goals to lead the Blues to an unlikely victory.
Plenty of media fanfare followed Kreuzer into the 2007 AFL National Draft where he was taken at Pick 1 to Carlton. He debuted in Round 3 of the 2008 season against Essendon and kicked a goal with his first kick in AFL. He hasn't missed a game since that week, despite talk from Ratten of perhaps resting him for this very clash in which he earned the Rising Star nomination.
Kreuzer had a distinguished junior career at the Northern Knights and before that St.Mary's Junior Football Club. He played 33 games with the Knights over two seasons. In 2007 he was the club Vice Captain, Best & Fairest and the TAC Cup's Morrish Medallist and Coaches Award winner. In the same year he was also voted as Vic Metro MVP and was named an U/18 All Australian. He was a back to back member of the TAC Cup Team of the Year representative in 2006-07 and in those same two years was a member of the Vic Metro U/18 side (Vice Captain in 2007). In 2005 he played in the Vic Metro U/16 side, where his Carnival earned him an AIS/AFL Scholarship.
Congratulations to Matthew on his Round 11 Rising Star nomination.
