The Northern Knights on field success this season has been duly recognised when the AFL released their initial list of invitees to the 2007 NAB AFL Draft Camp and State Screenings.
Six Knights - Trent Cotchin, Captain Jack Grimes, Matt Kreuzer, Brett Meredith, Patrick Veszpremi and David Zaharakis - will be attending the NAB AFL Draft Camp, which will be held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra from October 2-5, while a further three - Tim Bongetti, Ben Power and Luke Stanton have been nominated for State Screening on Saturday October 6th.
To put these numbers into perspective there has been 78 players initially selected nation wide for the Draft Camp, with 42 of these coming from Victoria - so six from the geographically small Northern Region is a fantastic achievement.
This announcement shows that the Northern Knights currently have a talented crop of players with a number of potential AFL draftees. Region Manager Peter Kennedy was delighted to hear that nine Knights are being looked at very closely by AFL clubs, with the possibility of more players being invited in before the end of the season. "It was pleasing to hear the news that six of this year's TAC Cup Squad have been selected to attend to 2007 Draft Camp as opposed to one invitee last year. We are extremely proud of all of these players efforts to date."
Draft eligible players who continue to impress over the remaining two games + finals can still be added to either the Draft Camp or State Screening lists.
