Tim’s dream to one day play AFL football is now one step closer to becoming a reality and the future looks bright. The AIS – AFL Academy provides the opportunity for the best young footballers in the country to enhance their sporting, personal and educational skills through a 12 month scholarship program. The Academy has proven to be a stepping stone to the AFL draft with the players that have progressed through the program featuring prominently in the previous drafts.
Throughout the year Tim will join the other Academy members for training camps and matches, culminating in representing Australia in an international development and educational tour. The Academy is headed by former Sydney Swans champion Michael O’loughlin. Tim will also have the opportunity to work with and learn from an impressive list of assistant coaches including Matthew Lloyd, Tadgh Kennelly and Brad Johnson.
Tim was a standout player for Gippsland Power in the 2011 TAC Cup season, proving to be a key target up forward, he was on track to be the TAC Cup league leading goal kicker prior to his injury and won the leading goal kicking award for Power. He has worked hard through his rehab phase and has been leading the way during an intense pre season. The fact that Tim is now bigger, stronger and fitter will be a cause of concern for opposition defenders who struggled to contain him in 2011.
Selection into the AIS – AFL Academy is a reward for the hard work and commitment shown by Tim and his family who have be a constant support. It is another addition to his impressive footballing CV that includes captaining Gippsland Power’s under 15 and 16 teams and representing Vic Country in the 2010 under 16 side. Gippsland Power coaching and support staff are very pleased that Tim’s efforts and ability have been recognised and look forward to watching him continue his development throughout the 2012 TAC Cup season and the AIS – AFL Academy.
