SENIORS:
Last Saturday saw Altona take on ladder leader Spotswood at home in blustery conditions. Altona were out to gain some respect following the teams 47 loss in round 3 earlier this year but it was never going to be an easy game.
Spotswood started the game well constantly pushing forward at every opportunity but our boys were equal to the task making a statement early that the Woodsmen were in for a tough game. Spotswood took a slender 5 point lead into quarter time.
The second quarter started much the same as the first with Spotswood throwing down the challenge to our boys early. Hollywood was taking control of the centre bounces and looked dangerous around the ground. Gags and Russo took advantage of this and started matching it with the Spotty midfield. Altona had more scoring shots than their opponents but poor kicking was starting to cost our boys going in to the main break down by 8 points.
The third quarter was Spotswoods with Jason Cloke getting on top and kicking quality goals. Our boys were trying hard but could not match it with Spotty who went into the three quarter break with a 21 point lead.
Eamsey challenged our boys at three quarter time to stand up and be counted and to our credit we came full of steam in the final quarter. Hollywood, Miles, Spiteri and Dion Lawson gave Altona every chance to reduce the margin but Spotswood were too strong winning the game by 33 points. The final scores were Altona 8. 9. 57 defeated by Spotswood 14. 6. 90.
