Welcome to our first Email News letter for 2009.
Have decided not to do a weekly sports results report this season but a more news type letter giving more information on the club and whats happening with Werribee Centrals in general. All results and weekly news items can be seen on our new Website at: www.werribeecentralsfc.vcfl.com.au so keep this as one of your favourites so you can keep up to date with what has happened both on and off the ground.
Our last real update was in our Xmas Edition which I hope you would all have seen and there has been many pieces of good news since.
Werribee Centrals in this Winter season has added two new Netball sides in an U 15's and a D Grade which now gives us close to 100 girls in competition plus on the football front have added two more Junior teams giving the club eleven sides for season 2009 and if you add in over 150 Auskick kids the club has reached the figure of 575 players in Centrals Sporting Uniforms just in football & netball alone. If we quickly add in our Summer Cricket teams which we now have 19 and the IN2Cricket numbers we will have over 1000 players in Centrals this year making our club close to the largest in the City of Wyndham. A very big achievement in any persons language. Something many people in our community would not be aware of from a club who has been the quiet achievers over many years so be proud of this achievement everyone as you have been part of it and hopefully will remain a part of it for many years to come.
The club has just about completed with the assistance of Council and our League the GDFL, the major refurbishment and extension of the club facilities. We have been able to add a new kitchen and storeroom and two new multi purpose rooms which can either be additional changerooms or part of our clubs members social area which has also been refurbished. In addition to this there are three new amenities areas to cater for the new changerooms but also for our netball girls for when the Netball Courts are built at Galvin Park. This new building will allow the club to hold most of its functions at the club and will give all our members something to be proud of and to call home.
The Netball Courts have not commenced yet but we are told will very shortly and give the netballers two courts right beside the clubrooms, thus finally allowing all our club to play and train at the one venue and be together at most times. Something we have been working at for many years. I know the girls are eagerly awaiting this new development as are the committee. This new development has been assisted by a Grant from the State Govt and the VCFL/Netball Grant Scheme so we thank them for their support.
The new ground lighting is also close to completion and should be commissioned within the next two weeks which may allow the Juniors to play some Friday night games before the season finishes. Next season perhaps the Seniors will be able to do the same. We have also added lighting for training purposes to our No 2 Ground to allow the main oval some rest during the week.
The Master Plan of Galvin Park conducted by the Council in conjunction with all the User Groups on Galvin Park when completed will give the club four grounds within the boundaries of Galvin and will be a real boost especially for the summer cricketers who are really limited with only the three grounds at present. We are also discussing the idea to convert one ground cricket pitch to an all weather/season pitch which will not need to be covered during winter and then will last longer and give a more truer bounce during cricket season. Something that will benefit everyone who use Galvin and not just our club.
On the field the club has appointed a strong coach in David Leatch and his influence has already been felt with a new found belief in the player group that we can win games that perhaps we may not have been able to over the past couple of years and also has been able to bring through the younger guys into the senior playing group very quickly which is paying dividends. At the moment being two and two after four games is not the best but we could have easily been 3-1 or even have won all four with a bit of luck, but the improvement is the good news as we go forward. Reserves have not lost a game and the U 18's have won three of the four. The Junior Division have added a couple more sides in 2009 and are travelling along well and giving everyone a game which is what Junior sport is all about.
The netballers with two new sides also in 2009 are going along very well with A, B & C all on top of their ladders after four games. The new D Grade side has won three of their games and together with the U 17s are in the top five. Our new U 15 side won their first game on Saturday and our coaches are very pleased with the development they have made since the start of the season. The girls have found it hard to adjust to the higher competition than what they would have been used to in the local Werribee Comp.
Fab De Cesaris and his business The Good Guys in Hoppers Crossing have joined Centrals as a major sponsor in 2009 and as part of this has supplied T/V's for our new social rooms, so thankyou Fab and your staff and we will ensure all Centrals people will call and see you all when they contemplate an electrical goods purchase. So everyone get along and support The Good Guys as we do all our other sponsors who we list here as well.
We must thank those sponsors from last year and those who have again joined us in 2009.
