"Grass roots football is where it's at. I was fortunate to play my junior football at such a supportive club. I accidentally fell into Aussie rules football, the under 11's coach at the time, Steve Clark saw me kicking the football around with my dad at the half time of my brother's (Scott Randall) match, and asked if I wanted to fill in, I haven't stopped playing since. The Safety Bay Stingers was more than a junior football club to me, it was my childhood, it was family, it was the community coming together as volunteers to ensure the best opportunities were supported for every individual. I started out in the canteen, running water, doing the timer, selling merchandise, mopping floors before I even became a player, I never realised girls were actually allowed to play. My mum was the team manager and registrar of the club, dad was the boundary umpire for our games, my grandparents owned the local bus company (Chart-a-Bus) for when we needed to travel to far away venues and my grandma was the Safety Bay Stingers number one fan, you could hear her cheering from the other side of the ground. So I was always heavily involved and gave back to the club I loved most. The positive game day experiences I faced was a credit to the club, coaches, parents, spectators and players, which made a humongous difference to me and others continuing and enjoying my football. I'm very grateful to the Safety Bay Stingers, my childhood and teenage memories that I will cherish forever. "Never forget where you come from - Chelsea Randall". I hope to see more girls and parents embrace AFL across Australia....just give it a go."
