Club History
The first junior team to be called South Mandurah was formed in 1980. An Under 10 team was formed from kids living in the South Mandurah area. They wore West Perth colours and their coach was Kim Knox (dec). They became a part of the South Mandurah Sports Association.
The Club evolved from the South Mandurah Sports Association. The President of the association at that time in 1984 was Ron Wilkie (Dec). The Association had Football, Netball, Tee Ball and Cricket teams.
In 1984 the South Mandurah Junior Football Club was formed to promote junior football south of the old Mandurah Bridge. These areas included Halls Head, Novara, Miami, Falcon, Avalon, Florida, Melros, Dawesville and Parkridge.
Ron Melbourne was the first President and served for 7 years (1984-1991). Lyola Burns was the Secretary, Lyle Conmy was Treasurer.
Other clubs in the Football Association at that time were: North Mandurah, Waroona, Pinjarra, Dudley Park, Rockingham and Kwinana.
The Club started its first season with:
10s and Under Team - Coach Terry Tomlins (Dec)
12s and Under Team - Coach Kevin Burns.
Mandurah Toyota was the Club's first major sponsor.
The Club first jumpers were West Perth style then Subiaco style jumper - maroon and gold. The same as the Senior Football Club playing jumpers.
By 1986 the Club had 4 grades of Teams:
10s and Under
12s and Under
14s and Under
16s and Under
In 1986 the Club's 14s and Under were the first team to make it to a Grand Final. Unfortunately they lost the game.
The Club changed to the current jumper (West Coast Eagles style jumper) in 1989.
The Annual Club Windup Dinners were held at the Mandurah Greyhounds each year.
The Club had grown to 18 sides in 1998. In 1999, the Club split into South Mandurah Junior and Halls Head Junior Football Clubs. By 2014 the Club had returned to having 18 sides again.
In 2014 another chapter was added to the club's history with our first all females teams.
The female teams have been very successful with one group of girls winning 3 consecutive premiorships in 2020,2021 and 2022. First group of players to do it on our club history.
In 2021 club introducted the Levi McCulloch Award to honour a real trailblazer in Female AFL development in the Peel area. Levi played all her junior football with our club.
In 2023, each of our Youth teams wore the Club's One Nation set of jumper for the first time.
The jumpers were designed by a club member Daniel McHenry symboling the club motto 0f "One Club One Community"
