Parents Code of Conduct
PARENTS
In line with the Australian Sports Commission general guidelines of proper conduct for all team sports, below is a list of what we should all consider proper conduct by all parents.
v Encourage your children to participate for their own interest and enjoyment, not yours.
v Encourage children to always play by the rules.
v Teach children that an honest effort is always as important as victory.
v Focus on developing skills and playing the game. Reduce the emphasis on winning.
v A child learns best by example. Applaud good play by all teams.
v Do not criticise children in front of others, but reserve constructive criticism for more private moments.
v Accept decisions of all referees as being fair and called to the best of their ability.
v Set a good example by your own conduct and behaviour.
v Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from sporting activities.
v Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person.
v Show appreciation for volunteer coaches, officials and administrators.
We suggest our members, coaches and all parents read the Basketball Victoria Code Of Conduct document:
