The undefeated Saints make the long trip to Muswellbrook this Saturday to take on the Cats. This has traditionally been a tough ask for the Saints, losing some tough battles atop the hill at Werriman Field. Last year's game at Muswellbrook was the breaking of the hoodoo, where the Saints totally dominated to run out 100 point winners. That win proved to be the catalyst for a premiership charge for the Saints, as the team truly believed they could go all the way after that win.
The last time these teams met was in the Major Semi at Varley where the Cats came within a whisker of upsetting the Saints. After kicking straight all day, the Cats led at half time and looked likely winners before the Saints responded and the rest became history. Both teams will come into this game with vastly different line ups. The Cats have had retirements of key players and are struggling to put a team on the park at the moment. Although they had to forfeit last week's game, they have shown some good patches of play in their other two games. The Saints enter this one still missing several key players. The last minute injury of Darren Pithers last week adds to the injured list, however the expected inclusion of Alex Dasey, who has recovered from a finger injury will help offset that loss. The younger players at the club will get the chance to impress together this week, in what should be a preview to the future direction of the club.
The Saints will be looking to produce a sound effort this week and try to come away with maximum points. Execution and discipline will be the message of the day and their best should be enough to take down the Cats.
