It is amazing to think
we are already at the last game of the Home and Away season for 2009. It seems like only yesterday that the
Saints travelled to Number One Oval on ANZAC Day to start off the season, so it’s
only fitting we travel again to Number One for the last game before the
finals. It is a venue the Saints
have not won at this year, and will be keen to put that hoodoo to rest this
weekend as a trip to Tamworth in the finals is a certainty for any team wanting
to take home the title this year.
Last week’s win was
the Saints third on the trot and with only a loss to the Roos in their last 6
starts, they enter the last round showing good form. The Bulldogs were well under strength last week, but the Saints
still had to put away the boys from Gunnedah and did so in convincing
fashion. The Cats have had a tough
year, but their results have been improving each week and will want to finish
the season with 1 win under their belt.
A win for the Saints could be enough to push them into second and a Major
Semi berth.
The Saints will have a
few regulars out this week with injury, but welcomed back Jono Elphick last
week, and will hope to have Tom Williams return this week to bolster the line
up. Beau Ryan has been a revelation
up forward, kicking 16 goals in his last 3 games, providing a great target up
front and also crumbing around the packs.
Ben Lee continued his great form in the ruck, and he will be looked upon
to again provide first use of the ball to the midfield, being led by veteran
Fraser Hughes.
All the action starts
at 3pm, and the Saints have plenty to play for with a second chance in the
finals up for grabs.
