The 2009 TAFL draw has been released and the Inverell Saints are already preparing for some blockbuster games in season 2009. Once again the TAFL will have 6 teams contesting the cup, with submissions from Moree and Narrabri not forthcoming for this season. The TAFL committee is hopeful these teams can continue with a submission for next season. Once again, each team will play each other 3 times, with a bye scheduled for the end of the second round of matches.
The Saints kick off season 2009 with a massive blockbuster on ANZAC Day against the Roos in Tamworth. The tradition of these two teams playing on ANZAC Day started last year and this year's match will be a stand alone game, with the other 4 teams playing the following weekend. The Saints return home a fortnight later for the first home game of the season against the Swans. Saints officials are hopeful a consensus is reached with the Swans to make this game a night game under lights at Varley. The Saints will then travel to Armidale to take on the Nomads, followed by visits from the Bulldogs and Cats to round out Round 1.
Undoubtedly the Saints toughest run will be through the middle of the year. In Round 7, the Saints will travel back to Tamworth to play the Swans, followed by a home game against the Nomads. However the Saints will then travel to Gunnedah, then Muswellbrook the following week, then back to Tamworth after the bye. All this means the Saints will play just one game at Varley in 6 weeks, including not one single game in July at home. It will be a period that will make or break the season for the Saints.
Once again this season, a neutral venue game has been scheduled for the Saints in Round 15 against the Cats, which will be a double header game in Tamworth and will be followed by the TAFL presentation night. With this game included, the Saints will travel to Tamworth 4 times, to Armidale twice, and to Gunnedah and Muswellbrook once each. In return, the Saints will play at Varley 7 times throughout the season.
