The Tamworth AFL Major Semi Final will be held this weekend at Inverell's Varley Oval, pitting the two top teams against each other. The winner of the Saints/Roos match has the prize of a home Grand Final and both teams have deserved their pace in the weekend marquee match. Both teams finished the Home and Away season with an impressive record of 13 and 2, with the current ledger between the teams standing at 2-1 in favour of the Saints. It is worth noting that neither team has showed all their aces, with the Roos twice traveling to Varley understrength and the Saints doing likewise to Number One Oval. Hopefully this will be the true test of both teams title aspirations with the Saints close to full strength.
The Saints very last match was 3 weeks ago against the Roos when they had a comfortable victory. On that day, the Roos were a long way from full strength and will improve this match. The Saints will miss Sam Kimmince, who has a broken foot, but gain the services of Bruce Wall who is returning from suspension. His hardness at the ball will be crucial to the success of the Saints. Mick Viney will also miss following a knee injury but the return to the team of Dick Gleeson adds much needed experience and assurity to the team. With Joe Kimmince another week away, the Saints are as close to full strength as they have been all year.
For the third time in three years, these teams will battle at Varley in a crucial final. With so much at stake, the contest will be fierce and only the deserving will take the prize. The match kicks off at 2pm and all players are reminded to be at the ground by 1pm.
