Celebrating significant events seem to bring the best out of the Inverell Saints after downing the Tamworth Kangaroos in slippery conditions at Varley Oval on Saturday.
Celebrations for the 2007 Premiership reunion were destined to be as cold as the weather late in the game until Ryan Woolley snapped a left foot goal in the dying stages of the match to seal a memorable 3 point win.
The win opens the potential of the Saints hosting a home final.
The home side started like a bullet out of a gun to open up a handy 30 point lead at the first break with Saints debutant Ben Gregory looking dangerous up forward.
But the Roo boys are a determined mob, fighting back strongly in the second term to go into the main break down by 7 points.
The Roos looked destined to turn the game on its head in the second half but the determined Saints wanted to ensure a home town victory in front of members of the undefeated Saints premiership team of 2007.
The Roos hit the front late in the game but Woolley would snap truly with a minute left on the clock to seal the remarkable result. Gregory was best on ground, finishing the game with 6 majors.
