The Inverell Saints are on top of the TAFL ladder after their big win over The Nomads on the weekend. The Saints got off to a flyer with an 8 goal first quarter and were never headed for the remainder of the game. To their credit the Nomads outscored the Saints in the third quarter however strong performances from a number of Sainters including new recruit Mick “Irish” Corley and Fraser Hughes made sure the team went on to record a strong win. Spearhead Mick Viney, playing in his 50th game, kicked 3 goals and played well until he limped off in the final quarter with an ankle problem. Mick has only missed one game in three years and should be right for the big game against the Roos next weekend.
The final score: Saints 18.19.127 Def Nomads 8.4.52.
The club is now gearing up for the Grand Final re-match next Friday night under lights against the Roos. The game kicks off at 6.30pm.
