The physical clash resulted in numerous sore bodies as the Saints recorded an 18.10.118 to 10.8.68 victory over the Gunnedah Bulldogs at Wolseley Oval on Saturday.
Saints goalsneak Chris Whitton booted the opening goal of the game but the visitors seemed slow and sluggish as the Bulldogs gained the momentum to hit the front midway through the first quarter before goals to Troy Hill, Tom McGregor, Keiran Te Velde and Whitton's second gave the Saints a 12 point quarter time lead.
Anthony Pages relished his role in the midfield and was well supported by Brennan Cosgrove & Damon Harrison as the Saints kicked four goals to two in the second term to take a 28 point lead at half time.
The visitors took full control in the third term with Justin Pay contributing two goals for the quarter and McGregor looming dangerous up forward.
What is starting to become more apparent is the forward line options that are available including Bailey Cosgrove, Te Velde, Whitton, Pay, McGregor, Dallas Baldwin, Josh McPhee and Toby Tollis with Lachie McDonald and Mike Gould to come back into the team
With the result determined, the last quarter turned into a wrestle with both teams scoring three goals a piece as the Saints ran away with a 50 point win.
Toby Tollis suffered a corked thigh and played limited time while Keiran Te Velde received a knock to the head and came off during the final term. Both will be monitored during the week but are expected to be fit to play in next weekends top of the table clash against the New England Nomads at Varley Oval
