The Roos secured an impressive 24 point win over the Muswellbrook Cats in Muswellbrook in last weekends Preliminary Final to earn a spot in the grand final. Dan Overeem, Ashley Cruickshank and Brett Douglas had big games and are in sparkling form for the grand final. The Inverell saints on the other hand had another weekend off in what has been a stop start final series for them and it showed during their last outing against the cats two weeks ago. The team has trained strongly this week and is ready for a big game against the Roos. The season's form counts for nothing in a grand final, where anything can happen.
These two teams play contrasting styles of football, the Roos are a tall marking side whereas the Saints success this year has come from its ability to out run the opposition for four quarters and it's tackling. The team that gets out to an early lead and overcomes the grand final nerves will go along way towards securing the 2007 premiership. The Roos have finished strongly in its last two games against the Cats and the Nomads so the Saints will need to turn up and be ready to defend for four quarters. This should be a great game be-fitting a grand final with both teams possessing match winners in their forward fifties. The Roos with the likes of Overeem and Douglas are capable of kicking big winning scores. However the Saints have pace to burn all over the park with the likes of Tony Halloran, Dave Kent, Alex Walker and Jono Elphick. The pace of the Saints and the home ground advantage and crowd should be enough to get them home in a grand final which could go either way. I'm tipping the Saints in a close finish...the margin about 20 points.
Disko's tip The Saints.
