Recent rainfall, and today's perfect weather, set the scene at Varley Oval for an outstanding day of junior football. About 90 boys took to the field and acquitted themselves well, with several boys from each school demonstrating outstanding skills.
AFL NSW/ACT Regional manager, Shane McAloon, and North West Junior AFL Development Officer, Evan Griffiths, were both on hand to umpire the games. Both were very impressed by the standard of play, and with the Saints' organisation of the Carnival. Initiatives such as this are vital to the development and promotion of Junior AFL in this area.
The Committee of the Inverell Saints FC and several senior players took time out from work to provide the manpower for the carnival. The Convenor, Nick Baird, considered the day an outstanding success and is looking forward to the day becoming an annual event.
A special thank you goes to Dick Gleeson (umpire), Matt Harrison, Paul "Billy" Billingham and Bruce Wall (goal umpires) for there help in making the day run smoothly.
Each team played 4 games, with 1st and 2nd place playing off in the final.
