Cats 23-10-148 def Bulldogs 11-9-75
A strong Muswellbrook Cats team travelled to Gunnedah to play the Dogs in a match that had no bearing on their finals standing, but was an important one for the Dogs to keep their slim playoff chances alive. It was not to be, as the Cats were too strong across the park for the Dogs who played well in patches during the game. The first quarter was pretty tight with both teams trading goals and the Cats went into quarter time with a one goal lead. They exploded in the second quarter though and punched through 7 goals to the Dogs 2. The Dogs came back in the 3rd quarter and goals were evenly shared. The Cats finished off the game in the last quarter, putting another 7 goals to 2 effort past the sticks. For the Cats Stuart McAdam potted 7 goals to take out the leading TAFL goal kicker award, with Bryce O'Conner & Ken Garland adding 3 apiece as well. For the Dogs Nathan Lenton booted 5 and Arlo Pryor & Jon Renton had 2 each. BOG for the Cats was Stuart McAdam and Dean Foley was the best Bulldog.
Swans 22-10-142 def Eagles 11-16-82
The Swans travelled to Narrabri to take on the Eagles to cement 5th spot for themselves in the finals race. They started well, booting 9 goals in the opening quarter. The Eagles could only manage one in reply. The second quarter saw the Eagles get into the game a bit, kicking 3 goals to the Swans 5. The visitors continued their goal attack in the 3rd, putting 6 goals to 1 past the sticks. With the game well in hand the Swans must have dropped off as little as the Eagles found some pride and finished strongly to win the last quarter 6 goals to 2. For the Swans Daniel Quinn kicked 8 goals in a BOG effort and Mark Wardley potted 6. For the Eagles Dave Pate & Duane Shawcross each kicked 4. Mark Stevens was the Best Eagle.
Nomads 11-12-78 def Roos 10-7-67
In a tight game at Bellevue Oval, the Nomads held onto 3rd spot with an 11 point win over the Roos. The game started evenly, with the Nomads taking a 1 goal lead into the first break. They added another 3 goals in the 2nd quarter to lead by 12 at the big break. The Roos were never out of it and kept plugging away, with Dan Overeem keeping their scoring ticking over. However the Nomads led for the rest of the match and the Roos were unable to reel them in before the fulltime hooter. For the Nomads Adrian Walsh booted 4 goals, aided by Jay Dunlop, James Downie & Anthony Reid who kicked 2 each. The reliable Glen Northway was best Nomad and for the Roos Dan Overeem slotted 7 goals and was BOG for his side.
