New captain Sam Kimmince will lead his side onto Varley Oval on Saturday with an endeavour to stamp his authority & influence on his team in an attempt to challenge for this years premiership.
The Inverell Saints tackle the Tamworth Swans on Saturday at Varley Oval as part of the opening round of the 2016 TAFL season.
Kimmince has been a valued player since making his debut for the Club in 2007 and is a key figure in the Saints backline. He brings toughness and aggression to the backline and this made him an obvious choice to be named captain this year.
His first challenge will be against a Tamworth Swans outfit on Saturday who have had a strong pre season & are keen to make amends for poor performances in recent years.
Kimmince will be guided by premiership coach & former Club President Dick Gleeson who returns to the coaching game to guide a team mixed with experienced and inexperieced players.
Gleeson replaces reigning Tony Gillies medalist & Club Best & Fairest Hayden Chappell, who moved to Victoria during the off season.
He has already laid down the law to players in regards to team discipline and is encouraging the new & young players to take up the challenge and push themselves against the best teams in the competition.
In other news, Inverell Junior Saints will make their debut on Saturday in the TAFL Junior competition which has been reinstated for 2016.
The match kicks off at 12 midday and will give boys the opportunity to improve their skills and give them a taste of a real footy match.
Come down on Saturday to watch the Saints tackle the Swans at Varley Oval. Match kicks off at 2pm
