Saints 16-12-108 def Roos 5-8-38
With their young star Alex Walker leading the way with 7 goals, the Saints continued their dominance of the 2007 TAFL comp, putting the Roos to sleep by 70 points. The Saints blew the Roos off the park from the opening quarter, kicking 6 goals to nil, with the Roos only managing a solitary behind during the first period. The goal fest continued up to half time with the Saints going into the main break with a 10 goal lead. The Roos rallied late in the game put on a few more goals but the results was never in doubt for the home team. The question now is, can anyone beat the Saints ?
Nomads 12-14-86 def Bulldogs 2-7-19
In wet and miserable conditions at Bellevue Oval in Armidale the Nomads finished off a lack lustre Bulldogs side who didn't really turn up for half of the game. With a freezing wind and rain affected pitch, the game was a bit of a slog for the most part. The Nomads started well with the marking prowess of Mark Handley netting them two early goals. The Bulldogs replied with a goal to Steve Reid and the match was anyones at the first break. The Bulldogs dropped off inexplicably during the second qaurter and allowed the Nomad too much space and to roam free across the forward line. The resulting pressure on the Dogs backline yielded 5 goals and the game was slipping away rapidly. Handley continued to mark well and kicked some cracking goals in the wind. The Bulldogs could not seem to co-ordinate their attack well enough to score and some desperate Nomads defence kept them out on most occasions. While their second half effort showed much more spirit, the game was well out of the Dogs reach by the final quarter and the Nomads took the 4 points in a deserving win.
Cats 17-13-118 def Swans 11-8-74
The Swans made the long trip down to Muswellbrook to take on the strong Cats team at home and made a fair contest of it. The Cats started quickly as usual, putting on 3 quick goals before the Swans replied with a couple of their own. The Cats took a 3 goal lead into the first break. The Swans continued to try hard across the paddock and this effort saw them only behind by 22 points at halftime. Further hard work narrowed the gap in the 3rd quarter before the Cats finished strong and over-ran the Swans in the final quarter to win by 44 points.Swans coach Lachlan ROWLINGS said after the game, "We gave ourselves every opportunity to win that game but their experience won through in the final quarter. It was a super effort from our midfield and sets us up well for a fortnight against Gunnedah."
