Saints 23-16-154 def Swans 5-12-42
The Saints kept their unbeaten record intact with a 110 point crushing of the Swans at Varley Oval. The Saints were never headed and easily handled the Swans on the day. The score could have been greater in favour of the Saints except for the fact that the game was called off 12 & half minutes early due to a gas leak at the nearby Inverell pool. Dave Kent was on target for the Saints, kicking 7 goals, with Mick Viney putting 3 through as well. For the Swans, stand in coach Daniel Quinn stated "I was proud of the effort of the lads that made the trip today. Anyone that watched the second and third quarters would have wondered how the score was how it was."
Roos 19-11-125 def Dogs 9-11-78
The Roos played well in patches in Tamworth as dd the Dogs and the match see-sawed between the two sides with each side gaining and losing momentum at various points in the match. The Roos managed to string together several goals in a row twice in the game and this provided them with suffcient buffer to hold off the Dogs. Undisciplined play cost both sides during the matchg. The Bulldogs gave away several 50 metre penalties which resulted in "gift" goals to the Roos right in front of the posts and the Roos had several players and a runner reported for rough play/interference. On the day the Roos forward line shone with some good marking and goal kicking displays with Andrew Hawkins kicking 9 goals, while the Dogs were gallant in defeat, producing some patches of great team play and with some straighter kicking on the day, the result could have been a lot closer. The Roos ran out winners on the day by 6 goals.
Nomads 15-18-108 def Eagles 6-6-42
The Nomads easily accounted for the Eagles at home booting 15 goals to 6. The Eagles road trip woes continue and several of the TAFL clubs find themselves in the same boat for away trips often going on the raod with less than 16 players. The margin could have been a lot higher, looking at the 18 behinds the Nomads kicked, so perhaps the wind was blowing at Bellevue Oval. Richard Malone kikced 7 goals for the home side and Dylan Mcgrath also added 3 majors. It is a credit to the Eagles that they did show up and not forfeit their second game for the season.
