In a bid to generate interest in AFL, and cater for our sub juniors, the Inverell Saints this year introduced an 8 week skills based program. Aimed at children from 5-12 years, the program has been running for 4 weeks now, and has grown from a group of 24 in the first week, to a group of 36 keen and willing youngsters.
We meet each Friday at 5:30 at the Sports Complex, and under the care of Matthew Harrison, Tim Ellis, Scott Wilson, Bruce Wall, and a few other willing helpers, the kids are put through training drills involving handballing, kicking and game basics. They then use these skills in a mini game to end the evening.
By all accounts the kids are having a ball - and so are the adults. It is wonderful to see so many kids out there and being active, and so many parents willing to come along and help out. The future of our Club looks great, with everyone pitching in and creating opportunities for our junior development.
If you have kids interested in joining the skills program, contact Marion on 0419158638. Our last session will be on Friday 30th March.
