The fledgling club will now play the Preliminary Final in either Tamworth or Armidale on September 2nd. The Saints second finals campaign got off to a flyer with a 6 goals to 2 first quarter and from that point on the team's lead was never threatened. The Kangaroos rallied in the third quarter but the Saints kicked away in the final quarter for a resounding win. The side was lead brilliantly by captain Fraser Hughes and their coach Dick Gleeson, who was the man of the match. Gleeson and ruckman Jason Gobbert kicked five goals each, and Mick Viney kicked four to set up the club's best win of the year. Club captain Fraser Hughes heaped praise on the team's defence saying it was the best of the season and coach Dick Gleeson says the club's players and committee can be proud of the achievement.
The Saints will be waiting on the outcome of next Saturday's second semi-final between the Swans and the Nomads.
In the meantime, The Inverell Saints under 16's will play in the second semi-final next Saturday at midday in Tamworth.
