The Saints had an opportunity to set up an early buffer in the first term but inaccuracy kept the Roos in the game.
The Saints backline led by Coach Dick Gleeson and Vice Capt Matt Harrison held firm restricting the visitors to only 2 goals, both from free kicks and 50m penalties.
Bruce Wall was sent to the bench for 10 minutes for backchat.
Quarter Time: Saints 3-6-24 Roos 2-1-13
The brilliance of Dave Kent and Mick Viney were on show with both kicking goals at crucial times of the term and set up a reasonable buffer at the main break.
The highlight of the term was the snap goal from an impossible angle by Kent, which amazed everyone at the ground.
Nathan Munro, who had kicked 3 goals, was stretchered off with an ankle problem.
Half Time: Saints 9-10-64 Roos 5-2-32
The Roos kicked the first goal of the quarter, threatening a comeback but Viney and Kent again took control, peppering the goals at will. Captain Fraser Hughes, and newcomers Collis Berryman and Darren Pithers were stamping their mark on the game as they continued to drive the ball forward. The courage of Tony Halloran was evident once again as he put his body on the line and provided an option when drifting forward.
Three Quarter Time: Saints 12-15-87 Roos 8-4-52
The Saints outscored the Roos in the last term, kicking 4 goals to 3 and registered their first ever win over the Kangaroos. Mick Viney ended the match with 7 goals.
Final Score: Saints 16-19-115 Roos 11-4-70
The Saints now sit in 3rd spot and if they beat the Nomads in Armidale next week, they will jump to 2nd spot on the ladder with games against Gunnedah (Home) and Muswellbrook (Away) to follow.
