The Cats began well kicking the first two goals of the game before Dave Kent, Mick Viney, Dave Simpson and Luke Selig booted majors to regain the lead at the first break. Chris Whitton sustained a knee injury that sidelined him for the rest of the match
Quarter Time: Saints 5-4-34 Cats 3-1-19
A four goal to one second quarter gave the Saints a handy buffer going into the main break. Johno Elphick, who has been gaining in confidence in the ruck in recent weeks, started to give his crumbers first use of the ball while Gary Hadland looked dangerous with every forward thrust.
Half Time: Saints 9-6-60 Cats 4-3-27
Although going into the 2nd half with a handy 33 point lead, The Saints knew they still had to pile on the goals to kill off any Cats resurgence which they certainly ended up doing. A 7 goal 3rd term by the Saints knocked the stuffing out of the reigning premier with Dave Kent, Luke Selig, Joel Fleming, Johno Elphick and Mick Viney all playing their part in the dominant 3rd quarter performance by the Saints. Ash Braun, playing his last game for the Saints rolled an ankle and never took went back onto the field.
Three Quarter Time: Saints 16-10 106 Cats 5-4-34
Although the result was a foregone conclusion, it was imperative the Saints finished off the game and build some much needed percentage. The Saints outscored the Cats four goals to three with Cats powerhouse forward Ryan McEvoy finishing his day with a goal at the siren
The battle between McEvoy and Shaun Mansbridge was an absolute belter and both players should be congratulated on their respective performances.
