Varley Oval will host its first ever game of AFL under lights when the Saints host The New England Nomads in the match of the round. The Nomads pushed last year's premiers, the Cats, to a draw in their game in Armidale last weekend and will be keen to continue their improving form in 2006. They will come up against a Saints outfit that are battered and bruised after two hard games against the Tamworth sides in successive weeks. The Saint's main injury worry is last year's Player of the Year, Luke Selig, whose appearance is doubtful due to an injured ankle. The Saints will be out to impress with their first home game of the season and will be hard to beat. The Seniors game will kick off under lights at 6.45pm.
In other games the Narrabri Eagles are at home to a struggling Gunnedah with both sides looking for their first win of the season. The Bulldogs have struggled, however the Eagles have looked good in patches during their first two games of the season and should start slight favourites at home and after their bye last week. The Tamworth Swans will host the reigning premiers the Muswellbrook Cats in a replay of last season's grand final. This match is expected to be another bruising encounter with both side's tendencies to play a no holds barred brand of footy with the Swans having the home ground advantage.
