The Swans set up their win in the first quarter by kicking 6 goals to the Saints 1 goal to Mick Viney, which came after the first quarter siren. The Swans were very physical in the first quarter and sucked us into playing the game on their terms and we were chasing them all day after that.
1st Quarter Score: Saints 1-1-7 Swans 6-3-39
The second quarter saw the Saints claw their way back into the game. Keeping the Swans goalless was the highlight of the quarter, inaccurate kicking by us was the lowlight. We kicked 6 points with our only goal coming from our reigning best & fairest Luke Selig. Nathan Munro went down with a muscle spasm in his back and took no further part in the game.
2nd Quarter Score: Saints 2-7-19 Swans 6-6-42
The third quarter was another hard fought one. The Saints were in control for most of the quarter, we relaxed for what seemed like a minute and the Swans kicked 3 goals. This was our straightest quarter for the day with Mick Viney kicking 2 goals and our new recruit Ash Braun kicking 1. We also lost Luke Selig for the rest of the game with a rolled ankle.
3rd Quarter Scores: Saints 6-8-44 Swans: 9-8-62
The last quarter again saw us keep the Swans goalless, but our kicking was wayward again. With most of the play we just could not convert on the scoreboard with only the 3 goal and 7 behinds. Mick Viney again played well with 1 goal and Brendan Anderson also getting 1 goal. All in all I think that had we not been sucked into the rough tactics of the Swans we would have won this game.
Final Scores: Saints 7-14-56 Swans: 9-14-68
Goals: Mick Viney - 4, Luke Selig -1, Ash Braun -1, Brendan Anderson -1
Best: The Inverell Jewellers Pewter - John Elphick, Wades Street Meats - Mick Viney, Wilko's Junction Service Station - Ash Braun.
