The Eagles started the game well kicking two goals before the Saints scored. But in true Saints fashion we fought back with a goal apiece to Nathan Munro, John Elphick and Gary Hadland.
Quarter time score: Saints 3-2-20 Eagles 4-3-27
The Saints started to get back into the rhythm of playing the free flowing game from last year, and started to take control of the game in the second quarter. With a quick goal to Nathan Munro, we drew within one point of the Eagles. The Eagles then started to get physical and throwing their weight around resulting in a minor scuffle that upset them more than it did us. Gary Hadland kicked two goals and Tony Halloran got one for the quarter.
Half time score: Saints 7-3-45 Eagles 5-6-36
In the third quarter, traditionally known as the premiership quarter, the Saints surged ahead with a six goals to four quarter. This is when one of last year's stars in Luke Selig found top gear and kicked three goals. With our captain Fraser Hughes kicking one, Tony Halloran kicking two and Peter Dunlop dominating off half back, the Saints showed what they can do when they all work together and play as team. The Eagles again tried to unsettle us with more physicality but when your object is the ball you will always come out in front.
Third quarter score: Saints 13-7-85 Eagles 9-6-60
The last quarter saw the Eagles get two quick goals before the Saints settled with one goal apiece to John Elphick and Fraser Hughes. Big Garry Hadland kicked two and seems to have found a place in the forward line. Overall, it was a good win by the Saints with our new recruits Johno Elphick and Brendan Anderson showing that the further this season goes better they will become. They will certainly be worth watching.
Other good players were Bruce Wall, Shaun Mansbridge, Fraser Hughes, Shaun Rynne and Tony Halloran.

Best: Peter Dunlop Inverell Jewellers Pewter, Shaun Rynne Wade Street Meets Voucher, John Elphick Wilko's Junction Service Station award, Bruce Wall, Nathan Munro, Brendan Anderson, Tony Halloran and Fraser Hughes.
