The Saints again let their opposition get an early jump on them with 4 goals in the first quarter. The Kangaroos were first to the ball allowing them to set up the early break to go into quarter time by 23 points.
Roos 4-2-26 to Saints 0-4-4
From there it was an arm wrestle in which the Saints and Roos went goal for goal, with Inverell slowly starting to edge themselves back into the game although Scoreboard pressure wasn't evident.
At the main break Roos 6-4-40 Saints 2-7-19
The Saints came out breathing fire in the 3rd term pressuring the Roos in every facet of the game but poor kicking at goal proved to be a decisive factor once again with the Saints kicking 2 goals 5 behinds for the quarter to the Roos 2 goals 2 behinds.
¾ time Roos 8-6-54 Saints 4-13-37
Going into the last term there was a belief the Saints could prevail and went about closing the gap. When Luke Selig was awarded a free kick in the goal square and goaled, the difference was only 6 points. But a lack of discipline and poor play allowed the Roos to gain the ascendancy and pile on 3 quick goals in 7 minutes to kill off any chance the Saints had of hosting a home final.
