The day began with a 7 o'clock bus trip and ended in heart-breaking loss to the Cats.
The first quarter was a tight struggle with both teams trading goals. The quarter time score was Saints 2-3-15 to Cats 3-3-21.
In the 2nd quarter the Saints got into the rhythm of the game and showed the Cats that we were not going to be a push over. New recruit Alex Walker started to pick up the pace of the game and showed that he will a valuable member of our team for years to come. With our back line holding the Cats goaless, the Saints went into half time pumped up and champing at the bit to get back on the ground and begin the 3rd quarter.
Half time score Saints 6-5-41 Cats 3-8-26.
The Saints started the 3rd quarter like it finished the 2nd. Everything was going to plan until the Cats' dangerous full forward Ryan McIvoy started to cut loose. This quarter saw our tough little rover, Tony Halloran, concussed in what can only be described as the crudest tackle seen all year. While being taken off the ground he ran to the next contest and was roughed up again. Unfortunately he retaliated and was sent from the ground, along with his Cats opponent.
3 quarter time score Saints 8-7-55 Cats 7-13-55.
The last quarter was another tight struggle with that man, Ryan McIvoy, proving to be the difference. He showed why he is the league's leading goal kicker by kicking the Cats goals everytime they needed him to. That being said, the Saints "never say die" attitude made the Cats work very hard to beat us. We proved that we can make the longest trip of the season, and be very competitive against the team who has a fierce reputation of winning at home.
Final Score Saints 10-8-68 Cats 10-16-76.
