The Inverell Saints officially bought 2010 to an end last Friday night with the annual Presentation Night at the Royal Hotel. For the first time, the Best and Fairest medal was named the Dick Gleeson Medal in recognition of the club president. Dick was a major player in getting the Saints up and running in 2004, being the first club coach and has now taken the reins as club president.
The night started with the President's address followed by the coach's address. The first award of the night was awarded to Joe Kimmince who recieved the Coaches Award. Mick Villella was then awarded the Most Determined Award. The first 7 rounds of the Dick Gleeson Medal followed, with Corey Wheeler establishing an early lead over Jono Elphick and Chris Whitton.
Following a short break, the Seaton Tollis Memorial Award for best first year player was awarded to Mitch Hall. Mick Viney then took home yet another goal kicking award and the Most Consistent Award was given to Chris Whitton. The next 7 rounds of the B&F Count was carried out, as Corey Wheeler opened a commanding and unasailable lead with the last 2 rounds to be completed. The battle was still on for runner up, with Jono Elphick holding a small lead over Whitton, Justin Pay and Joe Kimmince.
The club then presented some special awards to the 50 game players in 2010, as well as presentations to Gary Hadland for his 100th game in the Grand Final, and Mick VIney for his 300th career goal. The members of the squad that did not play in the Grand Final were also presented with Premiership medallions.
The final 2 rounds of the B&F count were a mere formality, as Corey Wheeler took home the Dick Gleeson Medal, winning the final count by a massive 48 votes. Jono Elphick finished runner up, with Whitton, Kimmince and Pay rounding out the top 5.
The Saints will now hold their AGM and Christmas Party at Dick and Annie's on Sunday November 16th.
