Our coaches play a critical role in the success of our teams and the development of our young players.

In general, they come from among the parents of our players as well as current senior players and former players.

We are always looking for more coaches so if you are interested in becoming a coach please do not hesitate to contact Marcia Habets the Clubs Coaching and Player Development Director. 

No previous basketball playing or coaching experience is required, just an interest in the game and a passion for helping our players to improve their skills.

Our coaches receive support from Marcia and other senior club coaches.

Assistant coaching

Assistant coaching is a good way to learn the ropes from an experienced coach.

We ask that all of our coaches complete their Coaching Certification via BNT

There is also an intorductory course Inclusive Coaching Course by PBTR

This free online interactive course is aimed at community coaches. The course contains five modules:

Mercy Rule

Once a team is beating another team by 30 points, the "mercy rule" automatically comes into play.  Both coaches need to be aware of this to explain to their teams what is required.

A Mercy Rule is defensive restriction, helping to promote sportsmanship in junior basketball. 

In simple terms, the defence is required to drop back to within the 3pt line, when they are 30pts or more in front. Whilst it is the referees responsibility to ensure this is done, it is also a "rule" of the game and needs to be explained to players by the coach - not the referee.

We also have some coaches who believe BOTH coaches have to agree.   This is NOT correct.
If you have any difficulties, please do not scream at the referees.  Find the court or referee supervisor (coloured vests) as the game is approaching 30 points and ask them to monitor and intervene if required. 

REMEMBER -  We all want to keep our juniors playing sport so being able to enjoy a game should be PARAMOUNT to us all.
