Semi-Finals

League Women - Tracy Village Jets v Eagles

Tikesa Docherty-Cole (16.8ppg) hit a season high 31 to lead Grand Final favourite Tracy Village Jets to an easy 83-56 win against the Eagles. The major-semi-final put the minor premiers straight into the Grand Final to be played on the 17th of June. The Bombers worked their way to a 39-28 half time lead and kept piling on the points for the remainder of the game. Eagles Ieasha Friel (20 @ 26.5ppg), Lillian Williams (16) and Alysha-Marie Williams (14) combined for 50 points, but really needed another scorer to be competitive. The Bombers on the other hand had plenty of support for Docherty-Cole with Kylie Duggan (14.4ppg) adding 14 and Erin Geer (12.2ppg) & Tania Dhu (8.8ppg) dropping in 12 apiece. The Jets now embark on another milestone in DBA history as they try to add another Grand Final win to their trophy case. If they do succeed they will have won their 7th straight Challenge Season GF. Plus, the fact that together with their 5 straight Championship Season GF wins they will have 12 straight (combined) since 2011. Complete domination of the Women’s League.

Uni Rebels v Razzle Storm

The Uni Rebels stopped the Razzle Storm from advancing any further with a 62-42 win that gives them a shot at the Eagles in the Preliminary final next Friday. It was steady as she goes as the Rebels built up a 30-22 lead by half time, pushed that lead out to 14pts after three quarters of play and ran out winners after an 18-12 run in the last quarter. Jaylene Bonson (15.7ppg) took game scoring honours for the Rebels with 16 and Danielle Ponter (13.4ppg) chipped in with 14. Erin Boyd (13.5ppg) was the lone double figure scorer for the Storm with 12. The match-up with the Eagles should be one to watch as the Rebels only lost to the Birds by 2pts in their last meeting.

Ladder:                   Tracy Village Jets 15-1, Eagles 11-5, Uni Rebels 8-8, Razzle Storm 6-10, Ansett 6-9 & Lightning 1-14

Preliminary Final 9 June:   Friday – Eagles v Uni Rebels 7:00pm

Men – Semi-Finals

League Men – Eagles v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels charged home in the last quarter to upset minor premier Eagles 82-63 to slot into the Grand Final on the 17th of June. The Rebels looked like blowing the Birds away at half time as they held a 47-31 lead, but after the break the Birds came out firing behind Anthony Golden (29.4ppg) who hit 10 of his game high 24 to get within 6pts at 60-54. If the Eagles thought that they were in with a chance the Rebels quickly doused that hope with a 7 minute 20-0 run that sent them straight into the Grand Final. The Rebels outscored the Birds 22-9 in the last quarter. Spencer Coleman (22.7ppg) led the Rebels with 21, Tim Morris (31.2ppg) had another solid game with 20, Travis Ellis added 15, Jake Kirby 12 and Jake Eyles 10. Golden had help from Kevin Woolley (6.3ppg) who had 16 (including 5 treys).

Ansett v Palmerston Power

Palmerston Power caused an upset in the minor-semi as they upstaged Ansett 82-77 to give themselves a crack at the Eagles next week in the Preliminary Final. Big games by Ben Streeter & Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson (24 each) gave the Power the edge they needed to win. The game went right to the wire as both sides tried to gain the advantage as the clock wound down. The Blues began the last quarter with a bang hitting 10pts before the Power responded. Slowly but surely the Power clawed their way back into contention. After Streeter hit a trey to give the Power a 3pt 77-74 lead they were never headed. The Blues got within 3 after a James Toohey trey with 18 seconds left, but that was the last gasp. Streeter (9.2ppg) hit 6 treys in his total & Jesse Bell (16.7ppg) added 13 for the Power while Jerron Jamerson (32.1ppg) led the Blues with 22 and Brad Davis (17.4ppg) hit 20.

Ladder:                   Eagles & Uni Rebels 12-3, Ansett 11-4, Palmerston Power 7-8, Lightning 6-8 Tracy Village Jets 6-8, HPP 4- 10 & Razzle Storm 0-14

Preliminary Final 9 June:       Friday – Eagles v Ansett 8:30pm
