Rebels Basketball Club was founded in 1972 by late Wally Nickels & Lloyd Nickels and the Nickels family, assisted by co - founder Derek Lee.

Rebels first entered the then Darwin Amateur Basketball Association in 1972 and is now the second oldest club in the Darwin Basketball Association (DBA).

Rebels have players from some of Darwin’s biggest sporting families playing for the club, namely Abala, Ahmat, Bonson, Cubillo, Dunn, Clarke, Lee, Long, Nickels & Rioli.
