Nelson Heat tries to cater to players of all ages.
Once all registrations are in each year, the Club will determine which teams in what age groups it will form.
Teeball / 12U
In our youth sessions players have a focus on hitting, base-running and having fun. Throwing and catching is difficult at the best of times for trainee players so these skills are taught organically during game time so it is not stressful for beginner players. We have two development tracks for our youth programme:
Teeball: Ages 4-10
Minor Ball (12U): Ages 8-12
This is a hybrid version of teeball/baseball where players are taught to pitch, catch and perform skills required for full baseball. But Coach-Pitch is incorporated to ensure consistency of hittable pitches and so every player gets to bat, hit, run bases and touch home plate!
For more advanced 10-12 year olds, please see our Junior League, which can also include a 12U team.
Training and Games are TBC.

The Junior League
Nelson Heat has coached many eager juniors in recent years who have come through the teeball programme and are ready for the extra excitement and challenges that real baseball provides.
In our Junior League, the players have a focus on hitting a moving ball and increasing their throwing ability and glove work. And of course an introduction to pitching is a staple of the players' development.
Junior League includes players up to 14U - Ages 10-14.
The national participation framework allows teams in 12U, 13U and 14U age groups.
Training: Wednesdays, 5PM-7PM at Champion Green (behind Garin College).
Games: Games are 3PM on Saturdays.

Senior League
Our strong Senior League programme has seen much success due to focussed training, quality coaching and great comraderie. At this level, players build on skills and opportunities provided at the junior level. We are able to cater to both new players, and those with more experience to provide opportunities both locally and nationally for further development should individual players want it.
Senior League includes players aged 15 and over.
The national participation framework allows teams in 16U, 19U and Open age groups.
Training: Thursdays, 5:30-7pm at Champion Green (behind Garin College).
Games: Games are 10AM Saturdays.

Note: All ages quoted mean the player must be that age on 31 August to play in that grade for the upcoming summer season. However, dispensations are available for local play from the Association if the coach thinks the player needs to play up or down a grade to suit their ability, and for the safety of themselves and other players.
There are no dispensations allowed for national tournaments.
