We met 4th placed Northern Bullants at Preston City Oval on a cold and windy Saturday.
SENIORS
1st Qrt
Once again we got off to a slow start and the Bullants got a 5 goal jump on us. We felt we were still doing the right things but small errors were causing us turnovers.
Jerommey Webberley had a great 1st quarter and we gave Ben Clifton a run with role on Ed Curnow to try and negate his possessions.
Sam power maintained his form and had a lot of the ball early.
Our young recruit Leigh Masters run out of the back line helped us get the ball inside our 50.
We looked dangerous running the ball into the breeze, and we had 8 I50’s,but just could not hurt the Bullants on the scoreboard.
Coburg:0.2:2
Bullants:5.5:35
2nd Qrt
After a dust up at the end of the 1st Quarter,it seemed to get us up and about.
Instructions were to honour the hit ups from the forwards as the Bullants had tall back man and we would have got out marked had we just bombed the ball in.
Rowan Hore took a strong mark on the lead after a pass from Sam Power to kick out first goal.
We were dominated centre breaks thanks to Hislop, Power and Wheeler and Rhett Jordon kicked the 2nd goal of the quarter after great ball movement from Hislop-Wheeler and Webberley.
Sam Power again used the ball well to pass to Hore who kicked his 2nd.
Power then kicked his first goal of the year after Ben Clifton kicked to him.
Coburg:4.5:29
Bullants: 7.7:49
3rd Qrt
In descending gloom and a fairly strong wind, the Bullants kicked with the breeze but our defenders put a lot of pressure on their forwards to force rushed shots on goal and they did not take full advantage.
We lost Nick Carnell through injury for the remainder of the game, but Pat Contin stood up and was a vital part of us staying in the game.
There was a great passage of play and Rhett Jordon handballed on to Macdonald who did some great gut running to create the option and he then handballed over the top to Hicks to kick the first of the quarter.
O’Hailpin was causing us a few headaches but he really seemed to be their only option in the attacking 50.
Macdonald again was involved in our next goal after passing onto Wheeler who kicked truly.
There were a lot of turnovers in both teams forward 50’s but that was mainly caused by pressure from defenders and some players not hitting targets.
Masters passed onto Contin who goaled with just a minute to go in the quarter.
Coburg:7.6:48
Bullants:9.13:67
4th Qrt
We had use of the 4-5 goal wind, but we still had to use it to our advantage.
There was a lot of the play played between the arcs again created by the pressure from both teams.
McErlain handballed to Hislop to again get the first goal of the quarter to get us within 2 goals.
Soon after the Bullants kicked out after a behind but the wind held the ball up and Browne punched the ball back inside our 50 where Wheeler picked the ball up with style and put through the goal.
Masters took a courageous mark running back into a pack and quickly played on and handballed to Post who stylishly on his left passed to Power right on 50.
Sam went back confident he could kick it and he did and we hit the front for the first time at the 18 minute mark.
Once again the ball held up in the wind after a Bullants kick out of D50 and Browne collected it and handballed onto Nason who ran into goal to secure the win by 6 points.

Bullants: 9.15:69
Goals: Power 2,Wheeler 2,Hore 2,Jordon,Hicks,Contin,Nason,Hislop
DEVELOPMENT
The boys dominated the first quarter, but once again we were inaccurate in front of goals.
After a quiet 1st quarter, Luke Cartelli was great around contested areas all day.
Hamish Dahl had an astonishing 51 hit outs and Nathan Thomas playing his 3rd game back after a long lay off, had 9 clearances and his hardness around the ground kept us in the game.
Tom Groves was solid down back and Dylan Murphy looked dangerous all day.
